FAQ’s

Q: When are payments for conductors and auditors due?
A: Payments are due April 1 to guarantee conductor/auditor placement. Delayed payments after April 1 risk registration deferment.

Q: If I register as a conductor, when do I have to decide what scores I will conduct during the symposium weekend?
A: You’ll be asked to decide on the two works/movements that you’ll conduct by May 1. These will be the works you conduct on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Then you’ll choose one of those scores to conduct and rehearse during the final lab ensemble session on Sunday afternoon.

Q: Do I have to bring all the scores listed on the repertoire list?
A: No, you do not need to purchase/bring them all. Bring the scores you feel you’ll want to have on hand for reference during the lab ensemble sessions.

Q: What’s this score study workshop all about?
A: Since this symposium welcomes conductors who have not participated in a workshop like this before, this workshop is held each year to assist conductors prepare. Score preparation and weekend expectations will be discussed. All conductors and auditors, regardless of conducting or symposium experience, are welcome to attend. This workshop will be held on Zoom and the link will be shared with all conductors and auditors a few days before the workshop.

Q: Am I required to attend the Percy Grainger House Tour?
A: No one is required to attend. This tour is being offered because the house is right here in White Plains, Westchester County, only 30 minutes from the symposium site in Old Tappan, because Grainger is a pivotal historic figure, and because Curt Ebersole is a volunteer and tour guide for the Percy Grainger Society, making this very easy to facilitate. There are 20 spots available for the tour, and priority will be given to conductor/auditor registrants. If we do not fill all 20 spots, we will be able to include performers to fill the remaining available spots. The charge for the tour is included in the conductor/auditor registration; performers/guests will be asked to pay a $10 tour fee (cash/check, payable on arrival).

Q: How will dinner work after the Grainger House Tour?
A: The dinner after the tour is optional as well, will be held at Ron Blacks’ (right around the corner from Cromwell Place). This will be an individual out-of-pocket expense for those attending.

Q: Will we be performing the works that we conduct and rehearse at this symposium?
A: No, this symposium does not include any public performances of the works cited.
