WCS 2014 is only 10 days away!

We are very excited to welcome back Dr. Mallory Thompson and Louis Alloro to this year’s symposium. The event is coming up the weekend after Memorial Day!

We recently had one Conductor pull out of the workshop. If you know someone who’d like to take the spot, please let me know.

I’ll be sending specifics for the weekend to each registration group, Conductors, Auditors, and Performers, within the next few days. Please review this information carefully, even if you’re a veteran participant.

We are looking forward to a great Symposium again this year!

The 2014 Symposium dates are set!

We are pleased to announce the dates for the 2014 MEBCI Wind Conducting Symposium, which will be held on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Northern Valley-Old Tappan High School. Please mark your calendars!

Dr. Mallory Thompson, Director of Bands at Northwestern University, will be returning as our clinician, and Louis Alloro will also return for his Positive Psychology presentation on Saturday morning. We are grateful to Amy Wilcox, the new Director of Instrumental Music at NVOT, who has agreed to host the event at the same location.

Registration will open on Monday, January 6. Once again, there are only 12 Conductor spots available, and they will be assigned in the order of paid registration. If you have come to play as a Performer in the past, consider stepping up to an Auditor or Conductor registration. Otherwise, we’d love to have you back as a member of the afternoon wind ensemble.

We will be continuing the option for undergraduate music education students to join us as an Undergraduate Auditor for only $100.00. Click here for complete registration details.

I hope to see you in the spring!

Only one week til WCS 2013!

Symposium next week!

We’re just one week away from this year’s Wind Conducting Symposium! Emails have been sent to all Performers for Saturday and Sunday afternoon’s wind ensemble labs. We are still in need of one more horn for both Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon, and I could also use one or two more trombones on Saturday. Please contact me or just send interested players to this site to register.

Workshop next month!

Do you love to perform in these lab ensembles, but are just not quite ready to take the plunge and conduct? For the second year, on July 23-25, I will be running a clinic that is just for you. Instrumental Music Education: Real-World Solutions for Improving Your Ensembles will focus on Social-Emotional Energy in Rehearsals, Score Study Techniques, Repertoire Ideas, Technology Strategies, and a post-Undergrad Conducting Boot Camp. If you are need of a shot in the arm, but are not quite ready for conducting at a symposium, this is for you! Download an information/registration flyer here. This is sponsored by the Northern Valley Staff Development Consortium. A reduced rate is available for music education undergrads.

Plenty of room for Auditors!

All 12 Conductor’s registrations have been claimed and are paid in full. We still have plenty of room for Auditors!

  • Auditors who are MEBCI members pay only $150.00! MEBCI runs this event annually, but so few MEBCI members actually attend — this event is for you!
  • Auditors from outside Bergen County who are not MEBCI members pay $350.00.
  • NEW THIS YEAR – Undergraduate Auditors pay only $100.00!

Auditors have access to the same resources and time with Dr. Thompson as the Conductors. This includes the demonstration/lectures on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and the end-of-day debriefings following the wind ensemble labs.

Consider registration as an Auditor — go to our Registration Page to register.

11 Conductors have Registered!

Less than 6 weeks into registration, we have 11 of the 12 conductor registrations taken! If you are seriously interested in conducting, please register soon!

We have plenty of space for Auditors. Bergen County music educators — this is an amazing and untapped resource! Take advantage of this opportunity!

We have also initiated the Undergrad Auditor registration, at only $100.00. If you know of undergrad music education majors who may be interested, please pass this along.
